My husband Robert and myself Sherrie have operated this firewood business now for many years ,we supply the local community with wood for winter and everyday purposes such as BBQ wood for the beach, We have a huge list of regular customers whom buy off us every year to keep warm. Both Robert and I worked for many years along side of each other both working full time jobs during the week and the week ends would be time to split the wood , Robert would chop the wood with a block splitter and we’d load the wood, I’d deliver it stack it and return to another load already split to go. We both did this for several years until we decided to purchase a splitter called Super Axe it attached to a tractors P.TO drive and worked off the hydraulics of a tractor, this made things a tad easier. Robert man handled the logs while I operated to arm to split the wood. After years of operating as a partnership we were forced by Port Stephens Shire Council to become a company, it was then we purchased more machinery and trucks, chipper to operate fully as a company.
Our wood has been stored for many years from our business Legend Loppers (NSW) Pty Ltd where we both worked side by side as qualified Arborists (glorified tree loppers, for those of you whom do not know what this word means) our business has helped many people in the community remove huge trees and remove rubbish from their blocks of land. We then turned the leaves into mulch and logs into firewood helping save our environment. We also helped local businesses with work such as clearing blocks of land and trimming trees to make safe, most of these businesses were big companies such as Port Stephens Shire Council , local earth moving businesses such as SS & LM Johnstons Pty Ltd, My husband had a bit of a reputation of being known as a possum, I personally could picture him with a tail. He climbed trees so confidently without any trouble at all.
On the 21st of January 2003, I received the worst phone call of my life. One of our employees contacted me saying come quick Robert has had an accident, the tree he had been pruning was rotten and the limb collapsed . Robert fell over thirty feet breaking his back at 3, 5 and 7 vertebra-es, I arrived on the scene as they were airlifting him by Westpac helicopter to the J.H.H in Newcastle. I was taken by a wonderful friend by car and met Robert in casualty he had all the necessarily tests and recovered wonderfully having daily physiotherapy and all the correct treatment and had a speedy recovery. To see him now its as though he had never had anything wrong with him, apart from a little pain as his getting older. Damn aren’t we all he he.We unfortunately had to cease business as Aroborists, which was not easy for Robert as this was his passion and he was the best. I named our business Legend Loppers (NSW) Pty Ltd because he was a legend in his trade. We both still operate our firewood business together although this is only on weekends.
Robert is employed with SS & LM Johnstons Pty Ltd as a casual truck driver/machinery operator this company was one of our previous businesses whom we subcontracted to over the years, so most of there clearing jobs we end up with their logs, we then turn into firewood.
Most of our wood that we supply is a mixture of hard wood and has been seasoned for many years.
We sell our wood by 6 x 4 trailer or truck load.
